There are so many wonderful things going on at the Pinelands Library that I need to jump right in and spill the beans.

The October reading raffles are now on display, along with a new game for the children. The adult basket is full of books, note pads and a day planner as you prepare your calendar for next year. There is even a $25 gift card to Dilisi Pizza for your munchies as you fill in those important dates. The child friendly basket is definitely Halloween themed with a pumpkin basket and tons of candy. Speaking of candy, how many candy corns can you find hiding in the children’s section?

There is still time to enter our Pumpkin Decorating Contest for kids of all ages. Prizes will be awarded in four different age groups including adults. Decorate your pumpkin as your favorite character from a book and bring it into the library where they will be on display. The contest runs from Monday, Oct. 3 until the Thursday, Oct. 27. Winners will be announced on Friday, Oct. 28.

There is a weeklong Mystery Scavenger Hunt at the library from Monday, Oct. 24 through the Monday, Oct. 31. Celebrate the Big Read by doing some detective work to solve this clue-themed scavenger hunt and find out whodunit. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

As far as movies go, our Halloween special will be a Vincent Price movie marathon on Monday, Oct. 31. From noon until closing enjoy thrills and chills with movies starring one of the masters of the horror genre. As Price once said, “It is as much fun to scare as to be scared.” For those of you looking for our Family Movie Night, it will be on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. with “The Jungle Book”.

There are so many other activities available that I will only mention them here: fourth and fifth grade book club, Skull and Bones Detective, and Full STEAM Ahead. For more information on these, contact the Pinelands Library.

Until next time, keep turning those pages! Or logging in!
